ABOUT US

Friends of the Assault Training Center became official in 2014 with a group of individuals sharing the common purpose of exploring American wartime constructions on Braunton Burrows.

Local people and visitors to Devon were all interested in what we were doing and what artefacts we had discovered, which showed the way forward was to publicise our efforts.

To achieve this a tented road show was taken to military events and exhibitions, local schools were asking for educational guided walks and history clubs and groups wanted illustrated talks. We hosted special events to commemorate D-Day on Saunton beach and assisted other organisations with their events.

Interest from the general public was almost overwhelming and resulted in several years of very busy schedules as our activities evolved and now include not just walks and talks but TV documentaries, hosting tours for American veteran families and more recently, motor tours of the training sites.

Demand for our knowledge and expertise has not diminished and our busy programme is organised and co-ordinated by a small group of dedicated volunteers who believe the way forward is to publicise the American wartime occupation of North Devon through education".
